Description

HENRY VAN DE VELDE 1863-1957

Henry Clemens Van de Velde (1863 – 25 October 1957) was a Belgian painter, architect and interior designer. Together with Victor Horta and Paul Hankar he is considered as one of the inspirers of the German Bauhaus as well as one of the founders of the Art Nouveau in Belgium. Van de Velde spent the most important part of his career in Weimar, Thuringia, and had a decisive influence on German architecture and design at the beginning of the 20th century.

The “Bauhaus” was an art school operational from 1919 to 1933 that combined crafts and fine arts, and was famous for the approach to design that it publicized and taught. It was founded by Walter Gropius in Weimar in 1919 as a merger of the Grand Ducal School of Arts and Crafts and the Weimar Academy of Fine Art. Its roots lay in the arts and crafts school founded by the Grand Duke of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach in 1906 and directed by Belgian Art Nouveau architect Henry Van de Velde.

UHRENWERK WEIMAR

“Uhrenwerk Weimar” (Weimar watch factory) – an internationally recognized brand whose origins can be traced back to the year 1950, is returning. Inspired by Henry van de Velde and the Bauhaus art school, the new “Uhrenwerk Weimar” is born in a traditional combination of culture and competence that was invented in Weimar but is at home now all over the world.

For the creation of the Weimar collection they engaged the Belgian watch designer Ronald Steffen. Born in Zug, near the heart of the Swiss watch industry. He studied photography and graphic design at the Royal Academy of Antwerp, Belgium.

The result is a unique watch collection, designed with an eye for detail. The back of the watches are engraved with a beautiful etching of a HVDV portrait and presented in an original WEIMAR watchbox.
